Rishi Sunak’s ‘go-to McDonald’s breakfast’ was removed from menu two years ago

Rishi Sunak has revealed his go-to McDonald’s breakfast order - before the fast food chain confirmed it stopped selling the item two years ago.

The Conservative leadership hopeful appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Thursday, a day after being pictured at a branch of McDonald’s.

He told breakfast show hosts Andi Peters and Rochelle Humes that his trip had been at about 7.45am, so he had ordered a bacon roll with ketchup, and pancakes.

He continued: “If I’m with my daughters then we get the wrap.

“With my eldest daughter...if I’m with her, then a wrap with a hash brown and everything in it is what we do.”

But a McDonald’s spokesman has told the Guardian breakfast wraps were from its menu in March 2020, before the move was made permanent earlier this year.

A source from Sunak’s campaign is said to have told the newspaper that the former Chancellor of the Exchequer and his children ordered the wraps prior to their removal from the menu.

The source added: “I think given he’s barely seen his kids in the last two-and-a-half years, it’s likely he hasn’t been to McDonald’s in that time.”

Sunak’s appearance at the fast food outlet has been branded by some a bid to appear more relevant to everyday voters - after a campaign trail blunder saw him derided for wearing £490 suede Prada suede loafers to a building site in Teesside last month.
