The UK's new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has named some of his favourite games, with reports suggesting that he is a keen gamer.
Following the resignation of Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak has today been confirmed as the UK's new Prime Minister, after beating competition from the likes of Boris Johnson and Penny Mordaunt in the Conservative leadership race, who both ultimately pulled out of contention before the race went to a vote.
But there's something you might not know about Sunak. He's a keen gamer, with Politico reporting that he loves games, while Tatler claims that Sunak is a fan of detailed models of spaceships, as well as video games.
And in a recent interview with Jimmysjobsofthefuture, Sunak was asked if he preferred Mario World or Mario Kart, with the 42-year-old confirming Mario Kart as his preferred game, while also revealing another favourite gaming title from his childhood.
"Mario Kart, best game ever actually," Sunak told Jimmysjobsofthefuture.
"On the SNES, if my brother was here, that and Street Fighter was how we spent most of our childhood, on those two games on our SNES."
The new UK PM was also asked what his dream job would be, to which he answered either a Jedi Knight or an X-wing starfighter pilot.
Dr Jo Twist OBE, CEO of Ukie, the trade body for the UK games and interactive entertainment industry, said: "Games are enjoyed by more than half the UK population, so it’s no surprise that the Prime Minister enjoys them too.
"The UK’s games industry is a creative and innovative powerhouse of a sector, creating thousands of high-value jobs, and generating billions in inward investment and exports.
"We look forward to talking to the new Government about how the games industry can deliver even more economic and cultural value and how we can maintain the UK’s reputation as one of the best in the world to make, sell and play games."
Much is known about Sunak, the UK's new PM. He will become the first person of colour to have the keys to Number 10, while he will also be the first PM to have more wealth than the country's monarch, with Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy having an estimated combined worth of £730million.
Sunak's wife Murthy, a fashion designer, is the daughter of tech billionaire N.R. Narayana Murthy, who is listed as the sixth-richest man in India. The Sunaks also boast a property portfolio worth over £15 million, with two in London, one in Yorkshire and one in California.
It's not known what game Sunak is currently playing, or what gaming set-up Sunak has, but it's fair to assume that he will probably have the best gear available, and it might even make its way into Number 10.
