Rishi Sunak novelty Toby Jug mocked for looking nothing like the Prime Minister

Rishi Sunak fans can snap up a novelty Toby Jug of the Prime Minister for £32 from Commons gift shop.

After political chaos led to three PMs in a single year, the Houses of Parliament has added another design to their prime ministerial range.

Every modern PM gets a novelty jug which is sold in Parliament's gift shop.

But collectors of the ceramic ornaments may be disappointed by the latest offering - which looks almost nothing like the Prime Minister.

The 11cm jug, which depicts Mr Sunak in a black suit with a blue tie, sparked astonishment from some social media users when it appeared today.

Campaign group Best for Britain tweeted: "What is even happening?"

The description on Parliament's online gift shop tells shoppers: "A handcrafted Toby Jug of Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.

"This ceramic jug is a limited edition with only 1,500 made worldwide. Part of the range of Prime Minister Toby Jugs."

He is not the only PM to be honoured in the UK-made range, which includes wartime leader Winston Churchill, plus Boris Johnson and Theresa May.

Even 49-day Prime Minister Liz Truss was preserved as collectible jug after her disastrous stint in Downing Street.

Sales figures from the House of Commons last year showed Mr Johnson's Toby Jug outsold both Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill.

As of last August, some 225 Toby Jugs of Mr Johnson had been sold since 2019 compared to 157 of Mrs Thatcher and 154 for Mr Churchill.

Shoppers snapped up 64 designs of Mr Johnson in 2019/20, 69 in 2020/21, 77 in 2021/22 and 15 up to August 2022.

Only 77 Toby Jugs of Mrs May were sold during her three stint in No10 between 2016 and 2019.

Manufacture of Mr Johnson's Toby Jug was reportedly held up because potters struggled to get his messy hair right.
