Concerns about ministers bullying civil servants are “a constant”, the head of a Whitehall union has warned, as he suggested multiple figures in Rishi Sunak’s government are subject to such allegations.
The prime minister has insisted that he does not recognise allegations of bullying against justice secretary Dominic Raab, just days after Gavin Williamson was forced to resign from cabinet over claims he told one official to “slit your throat”.
But FDA union chief Dave Penman warned that “there are concerns raised about a number of ministers, that is essentially a constant in government”, adding: “That's why what you're seeing isn't just about Dominic Raab.”
Meanwhile, Mr Sunak condemned Russia’s “barbaric” and “illegal” war in Ukraine at the G20 summit in Bali, as his chancellor blamed the conflict for driving inflation – “a hidden and insidious tax that is eating into paychecks and savings”.
The need to combat soaring price rises “guides the difficult decisions on tax and spending” expected in Thursday’s autumn Budget statement, Mr Hunt said.
