How Dalot defied Solskjaer to become a Manchester United regular

One of the more forthright observations earwiggers heard Ole Gunnar Solskjaer utter during his managerial tenure at Manchester United was that Diogo Dalot "can't defend".

Solskjaer's indiscreet analysis, uttered after the Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma gave Dalot a chasing at Old Trafford last season, was hardly a jolt.

The £50million signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Solskjaer's first summer immediately ousted Dalot - bought the previous year by Jose Mourinho. Timothy Fosu-Mensah was resurrected like Lazarus for his first appearance in more than three years even though Dalot was available at Crystal Palace in July 2020 and two months later the Portuguese was loaned to AC Milan.

Ferdinand reacts to 'lie' he told about Ten Hag at Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand has been forthcoming in his praise of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United – although it appears the former defender might not have been completely honest.

Ten Hag takes charge of his first competitive game with his new side on Sunday as United begin the new season at home to Brighton. The new United boss will be aiming to improve on a poor season last time out.

Having held title aspirations following their second-place finish in the 2020/21 campaign, last season saw United fall well short as they failed to even secure a top four finish. Ten Hag has been tasked with a major rebuild as he aims return the club to some of its former glories.
