Rio Ferdinand names the two strikers he would like Manchester United to sign

Rio Ferdinand has admitted he 'wouldn't be disappointed' to see either Victor Osimhen or Harry Kane join Manchester United this summer.

United are expected to prioritise a world-class goalscorer this summer, following the short-term half-season loan of Wout Weghorst from Burnley. MEN Sport understands that Erik ten Hag is targeting two major signings this summer, with a striker and a central midfielder top of the list.

United admire Kane and Osimhen but they would be difficult to prise away from their clubs. Napoli lead Serie A by 17 points thanks to Osimhen's 19 goals in 21 appearances, the Nigerian forward developing this season into one of the most dangerous strikers in the world.

Kane is on 18 for the campaign and became Tottenham's all-time top goalscorer earlier this year, and the 29-year-old's vast Premier League experience sets him apart from other world-class forwards on the continent.

“I think United are looking to sign a striker, there’s no secrets around it,” Ferdinand told William Hill. “Wout Weghorst was maybe a short-term option, although I think he has offered a lot and is doing everything that the manager would have wanted.

“There are two options that jump out at you. I think Victor Osimhen, in terms of form and being that out-and-out number nine striker, is arguably in better form than anyone in the world at the moment.

“Harry Kane is also someone people are talking about – there may be contract negotiations with Tottenham coming up, or perhaps he’d be looking to move.

“If that were to be the case, then I wouldn’t be disappointed with either. I think signing a number nine who can score 20-25 goals a season is something that the club are looking to do.”
