Rio Ferdinand names the one Arsenal player who is proving him wrong this season

Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has heaped praise on Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard was named as the Gunners' new captain over the summer and the Norwegian international has led his side to a perfect start to the season, winning all of their opening three Premier League outings. The 23-year-old even earned the man of the match award over the weekend against Bournemouth, scoring twice to help Mikel Arteta's men secure a 3-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium.

Now, former England international Ferdinand has admitted that Odegaard's performances have begun to prove him wrong after he had claimed that the captain's armband could weigh too heavy on the player's shoulders. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: "I said that the armband could weigh too heavy on him.

"I said it could, there was a chance that it could. Some people, when they get the armband it changes them. He’s started the season brilliantly. As a player I really like Odegaard, last season he was fantastic.

“He was a wonderkid from 15 years old and now he’s starting to show why. You either get the armband weighing heavily on you, or it enables you to grow and become better. Three games in it looks like it’s making him a bigger player, a bigger personality and a bigger character.”
