Rio Ferdinand names team that can stop Liverpool and Man City 'worst scenario'

Rio Ferdinand has admitted the dominance of Liverpool and Manchester City has left him facing up to "the worst scenario I can imagine."

The Reds have already won the Carabao Cup and like City they are also in contention for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Both teams are through to the quarter-finals of the latter two competitions while the defending champions lead Liverpool by six points in the Premier League having played a game more.

At the moment, the rivals look clear of every other side in Europe, meaning they could potentially win the four major honours available to English teams between them.

Speaking on BT Sport's Champions League Tonight, Manchester United legend Ferdinand admitted he was not keen on City and Liverpool sweeping up all the silverware.

"That is such a worst case, worst case," said the ex-defender. "That's the worst scenario I can imagine, Liverpool and City sharing all four of the trophies, nightmare.

"I can’t [see anything other than that]. I think Bayern Munich are the only team that could stop that - but that’s a big if. I agree Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea on their day, punch with them, over two games, but I think Liverpool and City are too strong.

"You can’t count [Liverpool and City] out. They’re that good a teams, on their day they will beat anyone, they’ve got the power, the resilience, the knowhow. It’s all positive at Liverpool at the minute, yes, they’re chasing Man City but they’re in touching distance."

Former Reds striker Michael Owen was also on the panel and he also said he can see Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola lifting all the prizes on offer this term.

"What I do think is that these four will be Liverpool and Manchester City’s between them," he said. "If Liverpool have two and Manchester City have two, ideally for Man City they’d probably want the Champions League and Premier League."

Defending European champions Chelsea are still in the fight to defend their Champions League crown and in contention for the FA Cup.

Meanwhile, Manchester United need to overcome Atletico Madrid to take their place in the last eight of the Champions League.
