Rio Ferdinand makes Cristiano Ronaldo prediction amid rumours over his Manchester United future

Rio Ferdinand doesn't believe his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo will leave the club in the summer.

Ronaldo is United's top goalscorer this season but rumours have suggested the 37-year-old could be looking to leave. United's involvement in next season's Champions League is under threat and they will finish this term without a trophy after being knocked out of Europe's premier club competition by Atletico Madrid.

Some reports have suggested Ronaldo won't see out the final year of his contract without the lure of Champions League football. Ferdinand touched on this subject when talking to talkSPORT but still insists that the Portuguese star should stay at Old Trafford for another year.

"I can't see him leaving," he said. "I think even if Manchester United do not finish in the top four, I think Cristiano has got to stay for another year.

"Yes he wants to compete, he has that burning desire to want to win trophies. He is used to doing that, he is used to winning things but it can't always be perfect.

"He's had a perfect run, almost, for his career and for Ronaldo to not have the Champions League music running through his ears on a European night... I don't know what he will think if he has to hear some other soundtrack."

United are outsiders to qualify for the Champions League next season. They currently sit sixth in the table, four points behind Arsenal in fourth who have a game in hand over Ralf Rangnick's men.
