Rio Ferdinand "going off grid" after watching Man Utd get "slapped up" by Brentford

Rio Ferdinand claimed he was "going off grid" as he slammed Manchester United for getting "slapped up" by Brentford on Saturday evening.

The Bees thrashed United in comprehensive fashion, going 4-0 up within 34 minutes of the Premier League clash. It was a fresh low for the Red Devils, who are now rock bottom of the top-flight after two defeats from Erik ten Hag 's first two games in charge.

The atmosphere at Old Trafford has soured even further in the wake of the drubbing, with Ten Hag left shell-shocked as he stood on the sidelines at Brentford. Thomas Frank's side capitalised on a woeful performance from United to secure all three points.

David de Gea's mistakes and what now appears to be a fractured dressing room all contributed to United hitting this new low. And it was a performance that left club icon Ferdinand fuming.

He took to Twitter to vent his frustrations, revealing he was going "off grid" to escape the jokes about his former club. Ferdinand wrote: "We are bottom….I’m going off grid. Brentford are slapping us up….my phones going off….my head hurts….my heart…HELP NEEDED."

Ferdinand did not stay off the grid for long though, filming a video in which he launched into a furious rant about United's performance. He slammed Ten Hag's squad and admitted that the Red Devils were now an "absolute laughing stock".

"I was travelling in my car watching and I almost crashed the car three times and I was in the passenger seat. It was unbelievable. I just don't understand. I can't put into words. We are just the butt of all jokes now," he told FIVE.

"We have become an absolute laughing stock. There aren't even teams below that I can banter. I'm getting ridiculed by Brighton fans, Brentford fans are going to be added to the list now.

"It's constant. You watch the game today and the players are nowhere near worth the money that they've spent on them. They're nowhere near worth what they're probably paying them. There's zero confidence in the building.

"You look at it and say this is not the Manchester United that I once knew. Even if there's a bit of a fall from grace, but this far? It's beyond digging out individual players even, it's just so. It's mad, we're not even playing against the top tier in the league."

Things could be about to get much worse before they get any better though, despite United's abject display against Brentford. Next up for Ten Hag's men is a visit from Liverpool, who smashed them by an aggregate scoreline of 9-0 last season.

While the Reds started their own season with a disappointing draw at Fulham, Jurgen Klopp's eyes will likely be lighting up ahead of next Monday's clash at Old Trafford. If that game goes the way that form suggests, Ferdinand may need to go off the grid for a second successive week.
