Former centre-back Rio Ferdinand believes the only way that Jadon Sancho could leave Manchester United this summer is by heading out on loan.
The winger, who turned 23 earlier this year, has struggled to make his mark at Old Trafford since joining the Reds from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021. He has scored just 11 goals and grabbed five assists in 75 appearances, meaning he is yet to live up to his £72.9million price tag.
Former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pinpointed the former Manchester City youngster as the club's answer to their long-term right-wing problems. Sancho, however, has produced the best of his football in United colours on the left.

He was absent from the squad this season from late-October until early-February and was sent to the Netherlands during the World Cup break to work on an individual training programme with coaches recommended to him by manager Erik ten Hag. He has offered glimpses of what he is capable of since his return to the fold, but the Manchester Evening News understands that Ten Hag is growing impatient with the England international.
Though United are not understood to have made any firm decisions on the winger's future as it stands ahead of the summer transfer window, reports elsewhere in recent weeks have claimed that he could be offloaded. For Ferdinand, however, he does not believe any potential suitors would be able to extract him from Old Trafford because of his wage demands.
"The thing is with someone like Sancho, wages are so big, its difficult to move him," Ferdinand told the Vibe with Five podcast.
"If someone says, 'we think you are worth half,' the way he has been playing, he isn't going nowhere. He isn't moving. [A] loan, maybe."
Sancho has made a total of 37 appearances for United this term, scoring six goals and grabbing two assists. He earned his first Premier League start since the 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Reds' 2-0 triumph over Wolves on Saturday, starting on the left-wing in place of the injured Marcus Rashford.
