'Does my head in' - Rio Ferdinand sends blunt Raheem Sterling message to Liverpool fans

Rio Ferdinand has hit back at some Liverpool fans who he says have “ridiculed” Raheem Sterling. The Reds sold the forward to Manchester City in 2015 as part of a £49million deal.

Sterling has now left Man City to sign for Chelsea in a deal potentially worth up to £55m, with the London club paying an initial £45m up front. It sees the England international return to the capital, having left Queens Park Rangers as a youngster to move to Liverpool.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has leapt to the defence of Sterling, who he says has been “ridiculed” and “questioned” by Liverpool fans since his exit in 2015. The ex-United captain went on to explain why the forward made the right decision leaving Liverpool when he did.

Diogo Jota hit by injury blow as Liverpool wait on scan results

Diogo Jota has handed Liverpool an injury scare after undergoing scans on a suspected recurrence of a hamstring problem.

Jota had tests on Thursday morning in Singapore after hurting himself during the Reds’ training session in the country the previous evening. And there is a fear the striker could again have damaged the hamstring he injured when on international duty with Portugal during the summer.

Jota was one of several senior players to only return for pre-season training last weekend when joining up for the ongoing tour of the Far East. With Liverpool mindful of his fitness, the 25-year-old didn’t take full part in open training on Monday in Bangkok and was absent from the 4-0 friendly defeat to Manchester United the following day.
