Rio Ferdinand and Joe Cole have agreed that Mason Mount will play a crucial role for Chelsea under Graham Potter. The 23-year-old has enjoyed an up-turn in form since the 47-year-old replaced Thomas Tuchel and, having impressed, he's set to be a key fixture in the Blues side ahead of the Qatar World Cup.
Mount, who has entered the final two years of his contract with Chelsea, has featured eight times for the west Londoners in the Premier League this season, directly contributing towards two goals from midfield. His impressive displays have seen him become central to Potter implementing his philosophies, giving Todd Boehly more reason than ever to offer him an extension.
Speaking to BT Sport, Joe Cole insisted that Mount is still widely underrated and has been the standout performer since the former Brighton boss arrived. The former Chelsea midfielder said: "Another manager has come into Chelsea and another manager has deemed him vitally important to his team.

"He picks up pockets [of space], can play off the left, off the right, he is finding passes. Unless you stand and study Mason Mount, you don’t appreciate what he does.
"Off the ball he is picture perfect tactically, technically," Cole added. "Everything about him says he should be the focal point of this team. He has been the pick of the bunch in the Potter regime."
Singing from the same hymn sheet, Ferdinand agreed. The former Manchester United defender said: "He is willing to play anywhere and when you are like that, he doesn’t moan and he puts in the work wherever you play him. Yes, we would like to see more goals from him this season, once he starts building that he will be the main part of this Chelsea team."
According to The Telegraph, there is an expectation that the Cobham graduate will sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge but 'it could take time'. It's said that talks began over the summer and there is no agreement as of yet.
So, the coming months could be huge for Mount with the World Cup around the corner too. He'll be looking to impress England boss Gareth Southgate and leave no doubt as to whether he should be on the plane in November.
