Rio Ferdinand aims dig at Liverpool with Manchester United and Ralf Rangnick point

Rio Ferdinand has aimed a bizarre dig at Liverpool and says they 'haven't had as many points in the bag' as Ralf Rangnick since he took charge of Manchester United.

The former RB Leipzig coach was appointed at the end of November and won his first game for the Manchester club against Crystal Palace on December 5.

Since then, United have won six, drawn four and lost one in the league, collecting a total of 25 points in 12 league games under Rangnick.

Ferdinand doesn't understand the criticism of the interim boss and says he 'is a pass at the moment' with regards to points accumulated so far.

“There is really a Debbie Downer on Rangnick and Man United, at the moment,” he told his YouTube channel Vibe with Five [via HITC ].

“Yes, I think the fixture list, whilst he has been there, has been favourable to Man United. But only Man City have picked up more points since he has come.

“They have picked up 28 points. Man United have picked up 25, so he can’t be doing as badly as it is spoken about in the media. In terms of points, he is a pass, at the moment.

“Everyone is saying ‘Liverpool are flying’. Liverpool, oh my God, it’s Championship-winning form now’. They haven’t had as many points in the bag as Rangnick since he has been here.”

Liverpool though, since matchweek 15, have picked up 26 points despite playing one less game than United after their Boxing Day clash with Leeds was postponed due to Covid.

The Reds drew with Tottenham and Chelsea in that time and suffered a disappointing defeat to Leicester, but have still managed to keep the pace with leaders Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's side can reduce the deficit to just three points if they win their game in hand on Wednesday night.

Rangnick is doing significantly better than his predecessor at United, but he's not quite matching Liverpool and City just yet.
