Ring customers fume at 'outrageous' 40% price hike on basic subscription

Customers with a Ring doorbell have been left fuming on social media about an increase on their subscription, with some blasting it as "outrageous."

The Amazon-owned company recently issued a one month warning to its customers to let them know that the price of their most basic package would be increasing by 40%.

Ring's nifty home device detects any movement outside your home, even when you are not in, and customers need to pay for a subscription to go back and review any of the footage.

But it looks like shoppers are more concerned with their bank account being robbed, as they have recently taken to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the increased prices.

The Manchester Evening News reports that basic package price will increase from £24.99 to £34.99 from July 1 - and comes with a host of new features in justification.

Unfortunately, many shoppers weren't convinced, with quite a few threatening to cancel their subscription amidst the cost of living crisis.

Taking to Twitter, Graham Murray, said: “@ring_uk, do you really think during this cost of living crisis, it’s wise to increase your protection plan costs by 40 per cent. I thought Ring doorbells were supposed to stop robbery! Ridiculous.”

Noah Sark added: “@ring_uk A 40 per cent price hike at a time when the cost of living for everybody is surging? Are you for real? It‘s absolutely outrageous.”

“@ring_uk 40% subscription increase is way too steep,” said @trixxie71. “ I have 2 devices considering selling them and moving away from Ring. Are you aware there is a cost of living crisis?”

And @ katweslowski wrote: “Just saw that @ring_uk have upped their prices by 40%! How is that even justified when most of us are just struggling to get by and a huge cost of living crisis. Will be cancelling after work tonight.”

Customers were sent an email explaining that the new price hikes would come into affect from July 1, alongside new features including increased video storage, bulk video downloading and sound detection.

Those paying annually are set to pay £34.99 per year, with monthly subscriptions going up from £2.50 to £3.49 per device.

The brand said: “Stating on the 1st July, 2022, we’re expanding the features available for Ring Protect Basic to improve your experience and give you even more peace of mind.”

Customers who don’t want to pay the revised prices are told they must cancel their subscription before the renewal date that occurs on or before July 1.

Ring Protect Basic subscribers will benefit from a boost in storage from 60 days of video history to 180 days, as well as the ability to download up to 50 recorded videos at once, rather than 20. Customers will also receive exclusive discounts including 10 per cent off selected devices on Amazon and Ring, with new alert features set to be announced on July 1.

Shoppers can currently buy a Ring wired doorbell for £39.99 on Amazon.
