Extreme right-wing commentator Candace Owens has been refused entry into Australia for her upcoming speaking tour and finally, some good news.
Immigration Minister Tony Burke announced that Owen’s visa had been cancelled on Sunday due to her extremist views.
“From downplaying the impact of the Holocaust with comments about [German SS officer Josef] Mengele through to claims that Muslims started slavery, Candace Owens has the capacity to incite discord in almost every direction,” he said.
“Australia’s national interest is best served when Candace Owens is somewhere else.”
OUCHIE MAMA!!!! I think we can all agree Mr Tony Burke ate with that one.
Owens had locked in five speaking tour gigs in Australia in November and was scheduled to visit Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
She announced the Aussie Candace Owens Live shows back in August via a video on her social media accounts. According to her website, the 35-year-old’s speaking engagements would be a “raw and unfiltered commentary on politics, culture and everyday life.”
Tickets to the experience started off at $95 but big fans could fork out $1500 for the VIP package to meet the controversial figure, and enjoy a pre-show dinner and a champagne reception.
Owen has become a prominent conservative figure and pundit in the United States and currently has almost three million followers on YouTube. In the past, she has incited controversy over her opinions. In 2021, she launched her own online political talk show with The Daily Wire. She was dismissed in March 2024 after she made a series of antisemitic comments, including one where she referred to Judaism as a “pedophile-centric religion”.
That’s not all though. Owens has allegedly referred to the transgender equality movement as “evil” and “satanic” and claimed that “white supremacy and white nationalism is not a problem that is harming Black America”.
According to The Anti-Defamation Commission — one of the groups that campaigned for Owen’s visa to be revoked — stripping Owens of her visa was a huge “victory for truth”.
“Australia has no place for those who mock the suffering of genocide survivors and insult the memories of the 6 million Jews who perished,” chairman Dvir Abramovich said, per the ABC.
“This is a line in the sand.”
Owens is yet to comment on her visa being revoked.
