Ridvan Yilmaz to Rangers transfer stumbling block that must be removed for Besiktas deal to happen

Besiktas will have to drop their £6million asking fee for Ridvan Yilmaz if Rangers are to do a deal.

The Turkish international left-back has been on the Ibrox club's radar for some time, but the position has become more of a priority since Calvin Bassey completed his £19million switch to Ajax, landing the Rangers a club record fee in the process. Some of that has already been invested back into the squad. Ben Davies ' signing was confirmed ahead of last night's friendly victory over West Ham United.

The former Liverpool defender penned a four-year deal after a £3million fee was agreed with the Reds, which could rise to £4million with add-ons. Davies is primarily a left-sided centre back, but can also play one over at full back. However, Gio van Bronckhorst wants a specialist to compete with Borna Barisic. Youngster Adam Devine has featured this pre-season, but the Govan club want a more experienced option.

Yilmaz is in the final year of his contract and is attracting interest from a lot of top European clubs. Rangers are open to a move for another left-back, but will only make a move for the 21-year-old if the price is right.

Reports in Turkey claim that Rangers have made a bid for the player but that is not the case. Other outlets have suggested there has been correspondence between the two clubs.

Rangers have banked just under £20million from the club record sale of Bassey to the Amsterdam giants but won’t be held ransom on the transfer front. The Light Blues have already signed avies, Antonio Colak, John Souttar, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Malik Tillman.
