Ridvan Yilmaz is heading to Rangers to pen a five-year deal, according to reports in Turkey. The Besiktas left-back is a target for Gio van Bronckhorst as he looks for cover after the departure of Calvin Bassey for Ajax. The clubs have been in talks over a deal for the 21-year-old, but the Turkish club's £6m asking price had proved a sticking point.
That's until now, it seems, as multiple reports in the player's homeland suggest a deal is now imminent. Turkish journalist Kaan Bizytat reports that an agreement has been reached over a €6.5m (£5.5m) initial fee, plus 20 per cent of the next sale. He claims that the player has left the Besiktas training camp in Spain and is on his way to Ibrox for a medical, after which he'll pen a deal through to the summer of 2027.
Those reports are corroborated by Oda TV in Turkey who say the deal should be completed "soon." They also note that Eintracht Frankfurt wanted to sign Yilmaz, but the deal collapsed, opening the door to their former Europa League final opponents to swoop in and get a deal done.
Elsewhere, it's being reported in Italy that Rangers 'have the advantage' to sign Wolves forward Patrick Cutrone. The 24-year-old was one of AC Milan's most exciting academy prospects earlier in his career, but a £16m move to the Premier League hasn't worked out with Cutrone spending time on loan at Fiorentina, Valencia, and most recently Empoli.
As things stand he's out of contract in a year's time and Calcio Mercato say that Gers and Spanish side Celta Vigo are the two frontrunners for his signature. It's suggested that Celta want a permanent deal while Van Bronckhorst is keen on an initial loan, although Wolves would likely be keen to sell to mitigate the risk of losing him for free in 12 months.
Van Bronckhorst has already added one striker to his squad in Antonio Colak but with Alfredo Morelos and Kemar Roofe both still out injured, another body up front wouldn't go amiss. The boss said after the friendly win over West Ham: "Colak has played almost every game and we've got the game ahead against Tottenham We made some changes just to make sure that they players aren't overworked and to give other players the minutes they need.
"Colak is our only natural striker at the moment. Hopefully we get Morelos back in the coming weeks, he will be back quicker than Kemar. Last season, I had no fit strikers so at least I have one now. Hopefully the other two will join Antonio in being available for selection."
