Ridley Scott rumored to direct Bee Gees film for Paramount

Ridley Scott in negotiations to direct Bee Gees film

In exciting news for fans of the Bee Gees, acclaimed filmmaker Ridley Scott is reportedly in talks to direct a biopic centered around the iconic musical trio. The currently-untitled film is set to be produced by Scott Free, GK Films, and the talents of Graham King, Stacey Snider, and Michael Pruss.

Adding to the buzz surrounding the project, John Logan, known for his work on Scott's epic film 'Gladiator,' has been tapped to pen the script. Paramount Pictures will distribute the film worldwide, with Amblin and SISTER having the option to co-finance.

Executive producing the biopic is Barry Gibb, the last surviving brother of the Bee Gees. The siblings Maurice and Robin tragically passed away in 2003 and 2012, respectively. It has been quite a journey to bring the Bee Gees' story to the big screen, as several directors have been associated with the project over the years.

Kenneth Branagh was initially set to direct a biopic for Paramount in 2021, followed by John Carney in March 2022. However, due to scheduling conflicts, Carney had to step down, making way for Lorene Scafaria, known for 'Hustlers,' to step in as the new director in December 2022.

The legacy of the Gibb brothers and their musical accomplishments has previously been explored in the documentary series 'The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart,' released in 2020. This upcoming biopic will delve even deeper into their captivating journey and shed light on their legendary rise to fame.

While working on the Bee Gees film, Ridley Scott is also preparing for the release of his highly anticipated sequel to 'Gladiator,' starring Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal. The film is set to hit theaters on November 22nd, promising another thrilling cinematic experience from the acclaimed director.

Scott's illustrious career boasts an impressive repertoire, including notable films such as 'Napoleon,' 'House of Gucci,' 'Thelma & Louise,' and 'Black Hawk Down.' Garnering recognition for his outstanding work, Scott has been nominated for five Academy Awards, and one of his films, 'The Martian,' even won a Golden Globe for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy.

As we eagerly await further updates on the Bee Gees biopic, Paramount Pictures continues to make waves in the music biopic genre with their latest release, 'Bob Marley: One Love.' Opening to an impressive $14 million domestically on Valentine's Day, the film has already accumulated a global gross of $19.4 million.

With Ridley Scott at the helm and an incredible creative team behind it, the Bee Gees biopic promises to be a must-see film that will do justice to the enduring legacy of the talented trio. Music enthusiasts and fans of the Bee Gees alike will surely be counting down the days until they can experience their remarkable story on the silver screen.
