Ridiculous rumour emerges over Liverpool and free agent Cristiano Ronaldo in Spanish media

That Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a Manchester United player is transfer news that will not come as a surprise to most after the recent antics of the 37-year-old.

A bombshell interview with Piers Morgan last week saw the Portugal international not only criticise a lack of progress by the Red Devils, but also his current and former manager as well as former team-mates. There was only going to be one outcome on the back of this conversation - an exit from the club whose fans have long adored the forward.

Times have changed, however, and even those who hold Ronaldo in high esteem were left struggling to defend their star man following his controversial comments that took the gloss of a vital 2-1 victory for his side away at Fulham.

Debate has already begun as to where the ex-Real Madrid man could next end up, with Chelsea, Newcastle and Sporting Lisbon representing the three current favourites to recruit the free agent. Upon sealing his return to Old Trafford last summer, Ronaldo's homecoming was cherished by United fans but put into reality by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Offering his view on this move, the German suggested the Reds would not consider short-term deals of this nature.

Offering somewhat of a bizarre take on the current sage, Spanish media outlet AS have instead suggested Klopp would be interested the out-of-favour attacker. Expanding on this point, the report adds Ronaldo himself 'would welcome' a move to Anfield due to enabling him to participate in the Champions League and remain in his current home on the outskirts of Manchester.

It is safe to say fans should not expect this to become a reality anytime soon or indeed at a later date.
