Concerned parents have spoken out over 'dangerous' parking at a Nottinghamshire school after "several 'near-miss' situations". It comes as parking tickets were served by officers at Walter Halls Primary School in Querneby Road, Mapperley, on Monday morning, June 5.
Cars are often parked on the zig zags outside the school at drop off and pick up times, said some parents. Richard Hanks, a stay-at-home dad, said that sometimes cars are parked on the pavement.
The 44 year old, who lives locally, added: "It is dangerous for the children. If possible, (parents) should walk their children to school.

"But I understand it can be tricky. If we are late we park somewhere and walk to the school."
He added that he has never parked on zig zags, adding: "But I see people parking there every day.
"Some days there would be parking wardens there and no one would park there. It just needs someone in a yellow jacket to stop people parking there."
Gemma Spooner, a mum of six, also raised concerns, adding: "We do not drive on the school run and I think more parents should do the same."
The 30 year old added: "The parking is ridiculous. There is nowhere to park anyway.
"It is so dangerous. Something needs to be done about it."
Dad of two Dominic Talbot, aged 26, added: "It is an accident waiting to happen. I walk my children to school and I think parking is an issue."
More parents said they often see people parking on zig zags outside the school. Emma Beardah, headteacher of Walter Halls Primary School, said: "Parking around Walter Halls Primary School has been an ongoing issue for us. The school has sent repeated reminders and requests to the school community to make safer choices at the start and end of school days.
"The lack of parking capacity remains an issue for our families and the high volume of traffic at peak times impacts negatively on local residents. We have experienced several 'near-miss' situations with young people being put in danger and would love some more effective help and support to improve things in the long-term."
A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of parking issues around all schools and have introduced a number of measures to try to encourage safer behaviour, including reduced speed limits, improved pedestrian crossings and school awareness zones such as the child-shaped bollards outside Walter Halls.
“Parents need to bear some responsibility for the safety of all the children attending the school when driving and attempting to drop off and pick up their own children. If possible, parents should also consider travelling to the school by foot, scooter or bike to help alleviate the parking issues.”
