'Ridiculous' climate group slashing tyres of 'gas guzzler' SUVs in south Dublin

A group of climate activists have been slammed for their "ridiculous" antics of slashing the tyres of SUVs in south Dublin.

The group claims SUVs "are a disaster for our climate" and "the second-largest cause of the global rise in carbon dioxide emissions over the past decade – more than the entire aviation industry".

Junior Minister Neale Richmond was contacted by constituents in Churchtown who had fallen victim to the climate group. He slammed the group for their "illegal" behaviour.

He told Newstalk: "This thuggery is unacceptable, I’m hopeful the investigation can put a stop to this carry on but be vigilant. I think this behaviour is absolutely ridiculous.

"It is no way to get people onside but crucially it is illegal. You’re trespassing on someone’s private property.

"You are damaging and vandalising private property to make a political point.

The Fine Gael TD added: “It is no way to get people behind the climate agenda and it is one way to annoy and discommode a lot of people. In fact, it has already been reported to the Gardaí and it is the subject of a criminal investigation.”

The group behind the acts claim to be an international group that has carried out thousands of similar attacks on SUVs in Europe, the US and New Zealand.

They left fliers on the vehicles they damaged.
