Rico Lewis opens up on Man City atmosphere at half-time vs Tottenham Hotspur

Rico Lewis explained that the Manchester City dressing room was down at half-time before their incredible comeback against Tottenham Hotspur.

City had created several chances in before the break but were hit by two quick sucker-punches which looked to have moved the game out of their reach. A mistake by Ederson allowed Dejan Kulusevski to fire the ball home before Emerson Royal scored in first-half stoppage time to increase the advantage.

Some Blues supporters booed their team off at the Etihad as Pep Guardiola's men stared down the barrel of a third straight defeat. Fortunately for those fans, that fear was not realised.

Julian Alvarez kickstarted the comeback with a close-range effort before Erling Haaland equalised in the 53rd minute. Riyad Mahrez's deflected effort beat Hugo Lloris at his near post just after the hour mark to turn the tables on Antonio Conte's side.

Mahrez rounded off the performance at the death when he broke the offside trap to make it four. In the end, it was the attackers who got most of the plaudits but 18-year-old Lewis also impressed at the back.

Speaking after the game, Lewis told Sky Sports what the atmosphere was like at the interval. "I think because we built so much up, so much on them and then they came back and scored two goals right at the end obviously we are all down," the full-back said.

"But, there is not enough time to stay down and then come back like that so we were pretty up for it straight away. As soon as we came back out we started doing what we was doing in the first half."

When asked about his thoughts on the match as a whole, Lewis sent a warning to Arsenal on the title race. He added: "Obviously it wasn't the game that we expected but coming back from 2-0 down really shows the character of the team.

"We have shown that the season is not over and there is still plenty of time for it to come back."

City sit five points behind the Gunners having played a game more than them. Next up, City welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday for a 2pm kick off.
