Rico Henry and Yoane Wissa reap the rewards as Brentford earn deserved win over Everton

Brentford signed their final away game of what has been a remarkable debut Premier League season with a 2-3 win over Everton. Things did not get off to the best of starts when Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave the home side the lead after 10 minutes, coupled with a boisterous atmosphere inside the stadium.

However, the Bees were given a huge helping hand when the home side were reduced to 10 men when Jarrad Branthwaite was shown a straight red card for fouling Ivan Toney when he was clean through. An own goal would get Thomas Frank's side back on level terms, before Frank Lampard's men went back in front through Richarlison's penalty to give them the advantage at the break.

However, a tactical switch saw Brentford turn the game on its head in a matter of minutes. Yoane Wissa would eventually get on the scoresheet with a superb looping header, before Rico Henry's brilliant header from Christian Norgaard's cross proved to be the match winner.

Brentford reporter Uzzi Majid discusses some of the talking points from a frantic but well deserved win at Goodison Park.

Electric atmosphere

Whilst some could argue the Goodison atmosphere was electric purely down to Everton's predicament, it was without doubt the most hostile and volatile away atmosphere Thomas Frank and the players have played in all season. Everton were on top of the game up until Brentford's equaliser, and the Bees found it difficult to play their own game in the first half.

Their cause wasn't helped by the crowd going ballistic every time they made the tiniest of fouls, despite the majority of the stadium showing their anger with referee Michael Oliver's performance at both half and full time. In his post-match press conference, Frank paid tribute to the home crowd saying they were remarkable.

Mads Bech's horror show

Even when they have lost, Brentford players have generally given relatively solid performances. However, Mads Bech's first half display is without doubt the worst any Bees player has given since they've been in this league. The centre-back was guilty of giving a stupid free-kick for Everton's opening goal, after poor miscommunication with Rico Henry.

He was culpable of giving away the penalty right on half-time which Richarlison dispatched to give the Toffees the lead at the interval. His performance was that bad, that Frank decided to spare his blushes and replace him with Vitaly Janelt who had never operated as a centre half in a back four in his time at Brentford.

Henry and Wissa's relationship

With Brentford occasionally adopting 4-3-3 in certain games, it's become quite apparent to see the relationship that has been evidently displayed down Brentford's left-hand side with Rico Henry and Yoane Wissa reaping the rewards. The duo got on the scoresheet at Goodison and both looked hungry going forward and wanting to attack every time.

Considering the Bees had played the vast majority of the season with a 3-5-2 formation, it's testament to both Henry and Wissa that they have managed to form a partnership down the left-hand side and have continued to cause their opponents damage. They will be hoping to do it again next week.

Leeds next week

Brentford might be wishing this season could continue a little longer, but all good things eventually have to come to an end. Their final game of the season this Sunday sees them welcome Leeds United to Brentford Community Stadium, who need to win to stand any chance of survival. In his press conference, Frank joked that Brentford would play the B Team against Jesse Marsch's side, but reiterated that they will play a strong side out of respect for the league and maintain its integrity.

That said, the Yorkshire side could still find themselves in the bottom three if Burnley manage to take at least a point away against Aston Villa on Thursday night. A win for the Clarets against Villa would leave Leeds needing to win due to their massively inferior goal difference, coupled with Newcastle taking maximum points off the Lancashire side at Turf Moor. Brentford fans can take a step back and relax, but the sheer thought of sending Leeds down will be in their minds as the week goes on.
