San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall didn’t waste time letting his teammates know he was okay after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest Saturday afternoon.
A suspect tried to rob Pearsall at gunpoint Saturday in Union Square in San Francisco. The wide receiver was shot through the chest during a struggle for the gun. He managed to avoid any additional injuries during the shooting, and was quickly in stable condition at the hospital.
49ers left guard Aaron Banks told reporters on Tuesday that Pearsall Facetimed the team from his hospital bed Saturday. That was also the night of the 49ers’ annual party at Kyle Shanahan’s house after final cuts. John Lynch told reporters Pearsall is now with the team per 95.7 the Game’s Jake Hutchinson.
While no 49ers directly mentioned Pearsall talked to them via Facetime, multiple players tweeted updates that the receiver was okay.
San Francisco placed Pearsall on the Non-Football Injury list Monday. He’ll be out at least four weeks, but that pales in comparison to what could have happened during the attempted robbery.
The No. 31 overall pick has yet to take the field as a pro after missing all of the preseason with a shoulder injury.
During his college career he posted 2,420 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 159 catches across three years with Arizona State and two more at the University of Florida.
