Ricky Gervais has slammed Piers Morgan for his interview with an official Taliban spokesman on TalkTV show Uncensored.
Ricky, who had wished Piers 'good luck' in a cameo for his opening show, appears to have had an about turn after the chat with Suhail Shaheen aired on Tuesday evening, the Mirror reports.
The interview was said to be “unmissable” in a promotion ahead of its broadcast and Piers told Twitter followers: “TONIGHT... EXCLUSIVE… I will interview the official Taliban spokesman.”
Piers disagreed with the Taliban official spokesman who claimed Afghan women are not obligated to wear the burqa and made a comparison of the face covering to masks worn during Covid in the UK
Ricky was asked his thoughts about the chat by a follower on Twitter who said: “What do you think about Piers Morgan interviewing the Taliban tonight? #disgusting?”
Ricky responded: “I’ve lost all respect for them.”
Piers asked Shaheen about the state of the economy in Afghanistan and highlighted his hypocrisy on girls’ education.
Shaheen said the burqa was similar to a Covid face mask, saying: “What you're seeing you've gotten from media reports, which are not correct, their property are safe, secure.
“There is no problem with that. About the veil, it is not only in Afghanistan, all over the Islamic world.
“You may have it in UK, that Muslim woman wearing also in UK, about the only opening the eyes, you many are using the mask, there is no problem. It is the same as the mask. The mask is not draconian but the veil is draconian?”
Shaheen has previously appeared on Good Morning Britain and joins other guests on Piers' new show including Donald Trump, Sharon Osbourne and Succession star Brian Cox.
Alan Partridge also slammed Piers at the BAFTAs, saying: "Sadly, I can’t be with you because I’m on a nationwide tour, performing to an audience bigger than Piers Morgan gets on the actual telly. But the good thing with Piers is that it doesn’t bother him.”
Piers ratings for his new TalkTV programme reportedly plummeted after just one week.
