Ricky Gervais shocks BBC One Show hosts as interview takes unexpected 'dark' turn

Ricky Gervais shocked the hosts of The One Show after he said he was 'going to die soon' during a chat about his new Netflix special SuperNature.

After Life star Ricky, 60, spoke to presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas about the sombre topic, leaving the pair lost for words.

The comedian responded to Alex and Jermaine’s questioning on the nature of his comedy and his willingness to address “taboo” topics.

He told them: "I'm fat and old and I'm going to die soon."

The After Life comedian, 60, sat down with hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas (BBC)

Alex replied saying: "No you're not.

And Ricky insisted: "I am, I've brought it down haven't I?"

Jermaine made a joke to try and elevate the atmosphere - but Ricky said again: "Every day I'm closer to death."

Alex then responded: "Well we're all a bit closer to death. Every day is a bigger percentage of the rest of your life and we don't know what percentage that will be. If I die tomorrow today was 50 per cent."

Jermaine seemed shocked and said: "I didn't see this coming. This is not a part of the show I thought was going to happen."

Alex then changed the subject before Ricky went on to talk about his Netflix show, saying: "I debunk the supernatural and conclude nature is super enough.

"We don't need unicorns, we've got the octopus. It's nature, humanity, warts and all. The best and worst things about being alive."
