Ricky Gervais reckons he'd get 'cancelled' if he presented the Oscars, after his controversial Golden Globes stint in 2020.
Fans of the After Life creator and actor want Ricky to host the awards ceremony after it was dubbed 'the most boring show on television', but he reckons he'd get cancelled halfway through.
Ricky presented the Golden Globes in 2020, where the comedian did a great job at entertaining the masses, and many now want the star to host the Oscars.
The Oscars hasn't had a host since 2018, when American talk-show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel headed up the prestigious event, so when organisers of the ceremony asked fans who should present the programme, many pledged the name of Ricky.
Lots of fans penned Ricky's name in the comments section, putting him forward and almost nominating him for the role of host, but the star isn't too sure he's cut out of the job.
Daily Star have reported that the comedian and actor said: "They'd never let me do what I wanted. I mean, that's why the Globes got me.
"They said I could write my own jokes and say what I wanted, no rehearsals.
"I don't think the Oscars would ever allow me that freedom and rightly so... I'd do the Oscars but it won't happen. I'd get cancelled halfway through."
When Ricky Gervais hosted the Golden Globes in 2020, the audience packed full of A-listers and big-name Hollywood stars squirmed when the comedian unleashed a barrage of jokes at their expense.
He told the audience on the night: "If you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech.
"You're in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.
"Come up, thank your agent, thank your God and f*** off. "

Another joke the comedian cracked poked fun at Titanic's Leonardo DiCaprio, where Ricky said: "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere, and by the end his date was too old for him."
While another jibe focused on the 'wokeness' of Hollywood: "We were going to do an In Memoriam section, but when I saw the list of people who had died this year, it wasn't diverse enough. It was mostly white people. And I thought, 'No, not on my watch.'"
Not only this, but Ricky also made fun of cosmetic surgery when he said: "Looking at all the wonderful faces here today reminds me of the great work that's been done this year – by cosmetic surgeons."
The Oscars will air on March 27, but it's safe to say that we highly doubt Ricky will be hosting the show... and if he ever did, we doubt he'd crack any of the above jokes.
