Rick and Morty promise their usual quota of warped, hilarious sci-fi escapades — enough for Rick to stamp Morty’s “adventure card” — in the show’s new Season Four trailer. Five new episodes will debut starting Sunday, November 10th at 11:30 p.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block.
“It’s been way too long,” a narrator intones in the clip. “The smartest Rick and Morty-est Morty in the universe are back. And things are pretty much the same: all fucked-up.” The preview itself concurs, following the mad scientist and grandson as they run away from bizarre aliens, dabble in magic and welcome a new cat-like sidekick, Chachi (who is promptly shot in the face and killed).
As usual, Morty is subjected to all sorts of life-threatening encounters. In one scene snippet, Rick instructs his fellow adventurer, “Let that salve sit for 10 minutes or you’ll die. Don’t let it sit for 12 or I’ll have to hunt down what you become.” Elsewhere, a grim-looking Morty confesses that he’s dying, to which Rick says: “People who are really dying don’t keep bringing it up.”
Pointing out the season’s split structure, the narrator calls the first five episodes “half the season you deserve, all the season we could handle.” Paste reports that five more episodes will follow in 2020.
