Richarlison sends 1.37am message to Jamie Carragher after Everton survive relegation

Richarlison sent an early-hours message to Jamie Carragher after inspiring Everton to a win that sealed the club's Premier League survival.

The Blues' hopes of beating the drop seemed set to go to the last day of the season after falling two goals behind in their crucial clash at home to Crystal Palace on Thursday.

But after Michael Keane reduced the deficit, Richarlison levelled the scores, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed home a Demarai Gray free kick to earn Frank Lampard's side a dramatic 3-2 victory which means they are now safe from relegation.

It sparked joyous scenes of celebration that lasted long into the night.

And it was at 1.37am that Richarlison, who has scored six goals in his last nine games, took to Twitter to address Carragher, the former Liverpool defender and now Sky Sports pundit.

The Brazil international tweeted: "@Carra23 wash your mouth before you talk about me and everton and I don't respect you."

During last month's Merseyside derby at Anfield, which Liverpool won 2-0, Carragher said on commentary for Sky Sports after Richarlison went down injured: “Honestly, get up, every week I watch him play like that! Get up, carry on.”

“He’s been down three times already, [there’s] nothing wrong with him.”

Everton fans, including former defender Alan Stubbs, were unhappy with the commentary. Stubbs tweeted: "Will have to turn this commentary off I think @Everton because it's so biased!! Richarlison clearly goes over on his ankle and is accused of cheating!! Liverpool class my a***.”

After seeing a replay of the incident, Carragher later said: "Maybe looking at the challenge on Richarlison, maybe I was being a little bit harsh on him.

“Maybe he just goes over on his ankle. [But] he just goes down so much in the game, he’s gone down twice already in this game where you’re not quite sure he needed to.”
