Richarlison 'replacement' lined-up as Everton suffer transfer 'snub'

With the signing of James Tarkowski all but confirmed and the sadness regarding the departure of Everton favourite Richarlison filtering through, Frank Lampard and Director of Football Kevin Thelwell continue to work behind the scenes to prepare for potential transfer business this summer.

The duo will have to work smart, with funds reportedly tight at Goodison Park as Everton continue to deal with Financial Fair Play barometers and manage the move to their future Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.

With a number of fringe players under contract, and unlikely to be moved on due to their wages, the Blues may have to compromise in some of their summer business.

However, they continue to be linked with a host of new faces along with speculation regarding departures from the club.

We have rounded up the latest Everton transfer gossip below.

Who?

Steven Bergwijn

Where?

De Telegraaf

What?

Everton target Steven Bergwijn has reportedly snubbed a move to Everton in favour of a move to Ajax, according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.

The Spurs winger is said to have rejected a move in favour of a return to his homeland due to a desire cement his place in the Netherlands side ahead of this winter’s World Cup. The allure of Champions League football is also reported to have played a part in his decision. The report also stated that he was offered to Everton as part of the imminent Richarlison transfer.

The same outlet had reported earlier in the week that the Toffees had offered better terms than those proposed by Ajax, had shown ‘decisiveness’ in their pursuit and were willing to pay Tottenham’s asking price.

However, it now looks as if Bergwijn, who signed for Spurs in January 2020 from PSV for a rumoured £26.7m fee, and has scored eight goals in 83 appearances for Tottenham, is set to head to the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Who?

Joe Rodon

What?

As part of what seems like the never-ending carousel of players linked between Everton and Tottenham this summer, the Blues are reportedly interested in Joe Rodon.

The report states Lampard is an admirer of the Spurs centre-back and has him on his transfer shortlist this summer. The Welsh international, who has won 28 caps for his country, signed for Spurs for £11m in the summer of 2020.

However, opportunities have been hard to come by for the former Swansea City homegrown star as he played just 87 minutes of Premier League football last season. Like numerous fringe players in the Premier League this summer, with the World Cup on the horizon in November, Rodon would reportedly be keen on the move as he seeks to secure regular football ahead of the tournament. Meanwhile, Lampard is keen to strengthen the spine of his side, as demonstrated by the expected acquisition of Tarkowski.

Who?

El Bilal Toure

Where?

What?

With fan favourite Richarlison expected to complete his move to Spurs this week, Everton are reportedly considering a move for Stade Reims forward El Bilal Toure as his replacement.

The report states that Toure is someone the Blues have scouted extensively throughout the year. The Mali international, who has two goals in two games for his country, came through the youth system at Reims after being picked from Malian academy Afrique Football Elite. He has scored nine goals in 47 games for Reims and Reims II.

Aged 20, the forward can play up front or wide, just like Richarlison, and is valued at £20m. He has also reportedly attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, Lyon and Monaco.
