Richarlison makes Everton goal claim after Brazil World Cup heroics

Brazil forward Richarlison insists his World Cup wonder goal against Serbia on Thursday evening was one of the best of his career, but he's done it before for Everton.

The 25-year-old was given the nod to start up front for the samba stars in their opening group stage match in Qatar, and that faith was duly repaid with a brace from the Tottenham ace, ensuring that the pre-tournament favourites got their campaign off to a solid start.

Richarlison's second goal was one to savour, as he flicked the ball up on his left foot with his back to goal, before swivelling to acrobatically volley it into the net with his right. It was arguably the goal of the tournament so far but the ex- Everton favourite recalled producing something similar from his time in a royal blue shirt at Goodison Park.

Speaking after the match, he said: "I think it was a beautiful goal. I already scored a goal like that for Fluminense and at Everton. Today I had the opportunity to make an acrobatic goal, one of the best in my career."

The Everton goal he was referring to was the Blues' first against Manchester United back in April 2019, a match the Toffees would go onto win 4-0. A throw-in from Lucas Digne was flicked on by Dominic Calvert-Lewin before Richarlison smashed home another acrobatic volley, this time with his left foot.

Richarlison finally left Goodison in the summer this year to join Spurs for £50million. Since making the switch to North London, he has only scored twice in 15 appearances, with both goals coming against Marseilles in the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Richarlison's former Everton teammate Jordan Pickford will be back in action this evening when England face the USA in their second Group B encounter at the Al Bayt Stadium. Kick off is at 7pm UK time.
