Richard Osman quits Pointless leaving fans of BBC quiz show devastated

Richard Osman has broken the hearts of Pointless viewers by revealing he's quitting the show after 13 years.

Millions of fans tune in every week day, and plenty of Saturdays too for the celebrity version, to see Richard and Pointless partner in crime Alexander Armstrong in action. The BBC programme has become one of those that everyone fancies their chances on, with them shouting out the answers from their sofas at home.

While Alexander has always been the show's main presenter, it just wouldn't be the same without Richard as he is the one who reveals the answers and also puts those watching out of their misery after the final round, by revealing the answers that would have been pointless but the final contestants failed to get.

But, while he is part of the furniture on the show, Richard is leaving Pointless behind. In a statement on social media early on Friday afternoon, he wrote: "After 13 wonderful years I'm leaving daytime Pointless, to concentrate on writing. Will still be doing the celebrity shows and 'House Of Games'. It has been the GREATEST pleasure and I can't wait to start watching as a viewer. Thank you to everyone!

Will miss the whole team, especially the incomparable @XanderArmstrong. Thank you to everyone who watches, it really has been a dream, and I know the show will continue to go from strength to strength."

Fans were swift to react, sharing their sadness with the TV personality, who offered some good news by revealing he'd still be on Pointless Celebrities. One replied: "I just gave a 100 people 100 seconds to list what they thought of this and the answer was..... nooooooooo."

Equally upset, a second posted: "No! The best of the show is the chemistry and banter between you and Alexander. Jeff Stelling was persuaded to stay on at Sky, let’s hope for the same outcome here," while already soeculating on who might replace Richard, a third responded: "Ooooooooooh this is like guessing who the next Bond will be."
