Richard Madeley under fire after calling Max George 'Tom' on Good Morning Britain

Richard Madeley has been slammed by viewers after he got one of the show's guests' names wrong on today's (June 1) Good Morning Britain. Former This Morning host Madeley called The Wanted star Max George "Tom" at the end of his interview on the ITV breakfast show.

The Wanted singer Tom Parker died in March from a brain tumour. Since his passing, Tom's book "Hope: my inspirational life" has been realised and the book talks about his journey through his tumour and the reaction when he passed away.

Max appeared on the ITV show to promote his best friend's book as well as his mental health and the NHS concert for careers which takes place this weekend. Only yesterday on This Morning, Max confessed he still texts Tom at times for some comfort.

Speaking to Richard and his co-host Charlotte Hawkins, Max said: "Right up until the end he would still be talking to other patients that had the same diagnosis as him. He was letting them know there is life to live and putting a positive spin on everything right up until the end.

"I think he touched a lot of people along the way and a lot of people that he didn't know. Which I'm really proud of him for."

Richard replied and said: "Tom, it's really good to speak to you." Fans quickly picked up on the mistake and took to social media to share their confusion and frustration.

@Luce_Smith25 said: "Did Richard Madeley just call Max Tom?!! @GMB" @LauraWall79 replied and said: "I knew I heard him say that!! What an absolute idiot."

@KirstyLBx said: "It was bad enough Richard Madeley constantly interrupting Max but him ending the interview with thank you coming on Tom. Really is the cherry on the cake #GMB."

@HilMaguire added: "I noticed that, how insensitive considering their conversation." @chill4 said: "Yes, unforgivable really, and to suggest it will take ‘about a year’ to get over someone close to you who dies, just shows a total lack of empathy."

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV One and the ITV Hub.
