Richard Madeley asks John Barrowman why he's not been cancelled

John Barrowman was speechless after Richard Madeley fired a blunt question at him at the start of a Good Morning Britain interview.

The Torchwood actor came under fire in May 2021 when a video from a fan convention in 2015 was released, which showed a Doctor Who co-star alleging he took "his d*** out every five minutes".

The 54-year-old admitted to "tomfoolery" on set and has since said "it was a different time" back then.

Viewers watching yesterday's episode of Good Morning Britain were surprised by host Richard Madeley's "brutal" first question to the showbiz star during an interview.

The former Dancing on Ice judge appeared on the programme to promote his new tour "I Am What I Am" and his hosting duties on All Star Musicals.

John has said that he wishes to "move forward" after the allegations came to light.

Richard Madeley started the interview and said: "A lot of people in this country would have assumed your career was over. When all the reports came out of this party trick you used to do, which is basically exposing yourself to colleagues which you thought was very funny at the time, and all this came out - and it would seem to many of us that that kind of sunk your career.

"And yet, here we are talking about brand new projects. How did you turn it around?"

John seemed to be stunned by the question and took a long pause before responding to the host's question.

He replied: "I don't think it's me that has turned it around. The public understand that it was tomfoolery, that it was a joke and silliness and wasn't sexual harassment.

"And you say it was my party trick, but everybody who was there on set and part of the fun, all enjoyed and laughed about the silliness that went on.

"Also, the cancel culture - they've tried to strip my career of over 35 years that I've worked very hard with and had a lot of fun and have been very open about all this silliness."

The Mirror reported shocked viewers thoughts on twitter with one user saying: "Wow. I don’t think Barrowman was expecting that opening from Richard Madeley #GMB".

A second added: "It doesn’t look like John Barrowman was expecting that question from Richard #GMB".

Another shared: "Richard went straight in the deep end no armbands #GMB".
