Richard Madeley stuns GMB viewers with 'brutal' question for John Barrowman

John Barrowman hit back at Richard Madeley after he interrogated him over his past behaviour - to the surprise of GMB viewers.

The Scots star said cancel culture is like hyenas "trying to strip meat to the bone" after the ITV host questioned him about allegations of exposing himself on the set of Doctor Who.

The Torchwood star was on the breakfast show to chat about hosting All Star Musicals, but the GMB presenter couldn't resist cutting straight to the quick with his first question.

John was accused and since apologised for exposing himself on the set of Doctor Who.

He has since defended his actions as "high-spirited behaviour and tomfoolery" and was also dropped from his judging role on ITV's Dancing On Ice.

Determined to continue to move forward and leave the past behind him, John and GMB viewers appeared slightly shocked by the former This Morning host's opening question.

Richard asked him: "A lot of people in this country would have assumed your career was over. When all the reports came out of this party trick you used to do, which is basically exposing yourself to colleagues which you thought was very funny at the time, and all this came out - and it would seem to many of us that that kind of sunk your career."

"And yet, here we are talking about brand new projects. How did you turn it around?"

John said: "I don't think it's me that has turned it around. The public understand that it was tomfoolery, that it was a joke and silliness and wasn't sexual harassment.

"And you say it was my party trick, but everybody who was there on set and part of the fun, all enjoyed and laughed about the silliness that went on...

He continued: "And also, you know, the cancelled culture. They've tried to strip my career over 35 years that I've worked very hard with and have a lot of fun. And I've been very open with all of the silliness that has went on.

"All the stories are nothing new. They've been out there for years. And I've written about them enough in my autobiography, but cancel culture are like hyenas that are trying to strip the meat off of a bone until there is nothing left and I'm over it and I have moved on. And I think everybody else has moved on and it's it's just cancelled culture has gone way too far."

John also said that he could write a book about other incidents over the years involving other people's misdemeanours.

He said: "There are different rules now, but it was a different time. And I'm just gonna say this."

"If I told all the secrets and the things that I know about the entertainment industry in years gone by, I can write one heck of a book I'll tell you, but that's not me. Because I know that is not now. That was then. This is now."

GMB watchers were surprised at Richard's harsh line of questioning.

One said: "Wow. I don’t think Barrowman was expecting that opening from Richard Madeley #GMB."

Another added: "Richard went straight in the deep end no armbands #gmb."

And a third noticed: "Richard Madeley interviewing John Barrowman is new levels of cringe I’ve not experienced before #GMB."
