Richard Madeley left his Good Morning Britain co-hosts speechless when he casually dropped a personal bombshell live on air. It happened during a chat with Lorraine Kelly, who popped in to preview her upcoming show.
Susanna Reid kicked things off with a playful prompt: “What did you reveal to us this morning?” Richard, looking slightly puzzled, responded, “For the second time on the show this morning… I’ll be 69 in May!”, reported Manchester Evening News.
Cue instant disbelief. Lorraine responded with a stunned, “You’re looking good!” while Susanna chimed in with a firm, “Doesn’t he?” Lorraine added with a laugh, “It’s ridiculous!”
Richard, ever modest, downplayed the compliments, saying, “I was just saying, honestly, I don’t think so at all.” Reflecting on how people view ageing now, he added, “I think it’s a cultural generational thing now, most people, as long as they’re reasonably healthy, approaching 70… don’t look it anymore.”
But that wasn’t the only surprise of the morning. Things took a cheeky turn when the chat shifted to rumoured names on the upcoming Celebrity Traitors line-up – and Kate Garraway’s name popped up.
Melvin Odoom joked that no one had managed to get hold of Kate, adding: “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m very suspicious and it makes me even more suspicious.”
Susanna laughed, “She’ll make an excellent Traitor if we can’t even get hold of her!” Melvin then urged: “I think you need to send her a message right now!”
Richard took the challenge and whipped out his phone, texting Kate live on air. Melvin asked, “Have you done it?” to which Richard nodded and said, “Yeah…” before confirming there was no reply yet.
The speculation comes amid rumours that Kate could be joining a pretty starry line-up for the BBC’s Celebrity Traitors, set in Scotland’s spooky Ardross Castle. Big names like Stephen Fry, Joe Marler, Charlotte Church, and Alan Carr are all reportedly in the mix.
Whether Kate’s playing the game or just keeping everyone guessing, her silence is only adding fuel to the fire. And with Richard’s age reveal and live texting chaos, Wednesday’s GMB wasn’t short on drama.
