Richard Madeley reveals he almost let slip daughter Chloe's baby news weeks ago

Richard Madeley almost gave away his daughter Chloe Madeley 's pregnancy news weeks ago, following the announcement on Good Morning Britain this week.

Chloe is expecting her first child with her husband James Haskell, with the former rugby pro sharing the news on Tuesday on GMB.

James revealed Richard was going to be a grandfather again, and announced they were expecting a baby girl.

But Richard almost ruined the big announcement weeks ago, ahead of their three month scan.

Speaking on the show on Wednesday, Richard took the moment to thank fans for the lovely comments about his family's big news.

But he confessed when Chloe was two and a half months pregnant, he referenced the baby news not realising she was recording a live podcast.

Some listeners apparently picked up on the moment, while Chloe managed to keep the news under wraps until the announcement this week.

Opening Wednesday's show, he said: "Before we go on, can I just say a huge thank you to all of you who sent such really lovely messages yesterday, after we announced the impending birth of my… fifth, fourth is it? Fourth grandchild, a daughter.

"James Haskell, Chloe’s husband was here and he announced it. You all flooded in with just lovely comments."

He then spilled: "Well I nearly gave it away. When she was about two and a half months pregnant, she was doing a podcast at home, she’d come home for a couple of days.

"She was doing a podcast, and I didn’t know, and I walked in, and she said, 'Dad, I’m just doing something here,' and I didn’t know we were live. I said, 'Oh, is it your hormones?'."

Chloe's mother Judy Finnigan was shown posing alongside her daughter in a cute snap, as she revealed the baby scan - which was also shown on the show as James broke the news.

He said: "Well Richard, Chloe and I are expecting our first child. We are going to be having a little girl, and you are going to be a grandfather once again."

Richard was beaming over the news, looking to the camera with a smile on his face as co-host Ranvir Singh celebrated the news.

He then reacted: "We can actually see the child. Chloe sent us this, there we are her three month scan.

"That's the little girl, looks like she's reading the paper doesn't it?"

James then quipped: "Let's hope she has her mother's looks! Because if she looks anything like me we're in a spot of bother."

Richard then spoke of an image of Chloe holding a pink baby grow: "That's when she told us, that's when she gave us the news. Judi looks so happy doesn't she."

James then praised Richard as a grandfather, sharing his excitement for the family to expand.

He said: "I've seen Richard with his other grandson Kit, and he's the best grandfather in the world so I'm very, very happy."

Richard then said: "Well I've got the best grandchildren in the world."

James and Chloe both later took to Instagram to share footage of their early baby scans, as well as some snaps of Chloe's growing baby bump.

Sharing the news, James said: "Chloe and I are so excited to announce we are expecting our first child!

"From the moment I saw her and heard her little heartbeat I fell in love! Let's hope she looks like her Mum."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
