Richard Madeley criticised for 'creepy' tribute to Olivia Newton-John after sad death at 73

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley confessed he had a “schoolboy crush” on Olivia Newton-John and shared his favourite poster of her that “used to stop traffic” but some viewers labelled his tribute to the star as 'creepy.'

During Tuesday’s (August 9) visit to the Good Morning Britain studios, the 66-year-old broadcaster and his ITV co-host Charlotte Hawkins welcomed viewers back to discuss the latest news headlines this morning.

And one of the biggest stories on everyone’s lips was the devastating news of the Hollywood star’s death who lost her battle with breast cancer on Monday (August 8).

While the newsreaders discussed the heartbreaking loss, the dad-of-two admitted that he had quite the crush on the blonde bombshell in his youth.

He admitted to viewers that he had a large poster of her at his first radio station that made him very popular amongst his friends.

Richard confessed: "She was extraordinarily pretty and in my generation she was basically every schoolboy's crush, she was certainly my schoolboy crush.

"And I always remember when I joined my first local radio station there was a poster of her, we've dug it out actually this poster, and it was on the wall of the music library - look at her there.

He added: "And I remember that it was visible from the main corridor and it used to stop traffic.

"The guys as they were going into other offices would stop and stare at that actual poster - sometimes for up to minutes - just drinking in her beauty.

"She was extraordinary and such a talent as well."

One Twitter user said: "Richard Madeley reducing ONJs achievements down to he and his colleagues letching over her 'beauty' in a poster of her that was in his office space back in the day. Insulting, inappropriate and very, very creepy.."

The legendary Grease actress died at the age of 73 at her family home in Southern California surrounded by her close friends and family.

Her musical co-star John Travolta led tributes to the blonde beauty as he paid a touching tribute to her on Instagram hours after her death hit the headlines.

Alongside a sweet snap of the starlet in her prime, he wrote: “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much.

“We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John.”
