Richard Keys sends Sir Alex Ferguson message to Jurgen Klopp after 'calamitous meltdown' at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp is not doing what made Sir Alex Ferguson "great", according to Richard Keys.

Liverpool have won almost every major trophy on offer to them during the German manager's seven-year reign at Anfield, but the Reds have suffered a serious drop-off this season, languishing around mid-table in the Premier League and having already relinquished their defence of both domestic cups.

Injuries have blighted Klopp's current campaign, but beIN sports presenter Keys believes that the Liverpool boss should have seen the warning signs coming, just like former Manchester United great Ferguson did when at Old Trafford.

Writing in his online blog, Keys said: "What on earth has happened at Anfield? Nobody expected such a calamitous meltdown, but Andy Robertson is right - it’s only getting worse. I’m not going to suggest that Klopp should go - but this all falls at his door. He should’ve seen it coming. That’s what the best do. It’s what made Fergie great.

"He’d dismantle teams at the peak of their powers. He knew exactly when to do surgery. And that’s why I’ve always been convinced he knew he was leaving a bang ordinary team behind when he retired."

Liverpool's poor season has heaped unexpected pressure on their hugely popular manager, but Klopp, who only signed a new long-term contract last year has no intention of going anywhere and hinted strongly that squad changes were on their way.

Speaking in a press conference earlier this month he said: "Either the manager's position changes or a lot of other things change. So, as far as I am concerned unless someone tells me, I will not go. I will be here for as long as I am wanted. If no one tells me to go, I will not go."
