Richard Keys has slammed Manchester united higher ups and decision makers for letting former boss Erik Ten Hag spend £200 million ‘on rubbish’. Keys feels someone “should be fired” as keeping Ten Hag was a “cataclysmic mistake”, leaving new boss Ruben Amorim with “nothing” to work with.
Richard Keys Slams Manchester United Board
Although the future may seem bright for Manchester United with the appointment of their new Head Coach Ruben Amorim, the general consensus is that there are still several underlying issues at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have spent heavily since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s arrival around a year ago. This includes spending over £180 million on five new arrivals at the club in Ratcliffe’s first window.
Despite penning a new deal with United in the summer, Erik ten Hag was sacked just months later, despite spending all of that money on five signings who haven’t exactly delivered so far.
Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte and Noussair Mazraoui were all brought in by the Dutchman in the summer, leaving new boss Ruben Amorim in a tricky position now in the Manchester United hotseat.
Reports suggest that United are now restricted to a more modest budget, after the huge spendings from ten Hag whilst in charge at Old Trafford. Richard Keys, beIN Sports Senior Football Anchor and highly controversial football figure, has slammed the club and the decision makers for leaving the new Portuguese head coach in a bad position:
“Every briefing coming out of OT underlines what a cataclysmic mistake it was keeping ten Toast last summer.
“They let him spend another £200m+ on rubbish & now there’s nothing for Amorim. Somebody in the brains trust should be fired. There’s nothing for Amorim to work with,” said Keys in a recent X (Twitter) post.
‘Somebody In The Brains Trust Should Be Fired’ – Keys
Manchester United’s heavy and spending under former boss Erik ten Hag hasn’t exactly left Ruben Amorim in a strong position. As previously suggested, the former Sporting CP manager will be forced into working with a restricted budget, given how careless the Red Devils were with previous spending sprees.
Richard Keys has hit out at the club’s decision makers, stating that “somebody in the brains trust should be fired”. His reasoning seems to be that the Old Trafford higher-ups shouldn’t have invested so much money into ten Hag and his signings, if they were going to sack him anyway.
In short, Keys believes some of the Manchester United recruitment team and board members should be fired after Amorim’s £200m transfer blow.

Despite this harsh criticism, United’s recruitment team have remained positive with their work and maintain they are doing a good job. Earlier this season, the panel of chiefs supposedly claimed they believed they had only overpaid for one summer signing.
Now, it is being suggested that Ruben Amorim will need to get rid of several players in January, as well as next summer.
Reports coming out of Old Trafford suggest they would be willing to cut their losses on £81 million winger Antony, as well as potentially selling the likes of Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Amad Diallo to name but a few.
Time will tell what happens at Old Trafford this January and beyond. New boss Amorim certainly has a job on his hands, both on the pitch and off it.
