Rhyse Martin provides update on Leeds Rhinos future with contract close to expiring

Rhyse Martin is hoping to finalise a decision on his future in the coming weeks. The Leeds Rhinos forward is off-contract at the end of the season and is yet to come to a conclusion on his next move as he enters the final months of his deal.

The back-rower has been one of Leeds' most consistent performers this year. In his nine Super League appearances, he has scored three tries, kicked 24 goals and averaged more than 30 tackles per game.

The 29-year-old signed a one-year extension last season in order to allow his performances to do the talking ahead of this year's negotiations. Back to his best form, Martin is hopeful that a resolution will be found sooner rather than later.

"Personally I feel like I'm in a good place," he said. "I'm enjoying my footy and the direction we're going in suits my style of playing and I'm just enjoying it. Last season I had a bit of a cloud over my head with being off-contract and not playing great and also a little fella on the way. There were just a number of unsettled issues around me making my footy not as good as it should have been.

"But at the moment we're happy and settled and the way we're starting to play suits me, so I'm excited. I'm off again this year but I'm definitely in a better position now and that should sort itself out, hopefully soon. But over the last few weeks I've not really thought about it. We had so many games back-to-back so we didn't have a chance to think about it.

"But definitely, it won't go as late as it did last year but I've not spoken to my manager about it just yet, my focus has just been playing games as that's all we've been doing, I've not even had much of a social life really! But things are calming down and hopefully, we can sort it sooner than we did last year."
