Wales international Rhys Webb's move to Biarritz Olympique has been confirmed.
The 34-year-old scrum-half has joined the French club on a two-year deal after quitting Welsh rugby earlier this year following the expiration of his contract with the Ospreys.
Having been named in Warren Gatland's extended training squad, Webb announced his retirement from Test rugby 100 days before the start of the World Cup in France.
The 40-cap international explained in a statement that while he would have loved to end his professional career at a Welsh region, the "present uncertainties and difficulties" in Welsh rugby meant there was "little opportunity for a contract that offered security for the coming years".
A switch to French rugby has long been on the cards but in a dramatic twist, Webb's final destination reportedly changed just days ago.
He was set to follow current Biarritz owner Jean-Baptiste Aldigé to Agen, with the Frenchman due to sell his club and take over their Pro D2 rivals. Reports in France previously suggested he would be taking Webb, plus fellow Wales internationals Rhys Patchell and Tyler Morgan with him.
However, this sale has seemingly collapsed, with Webb going to Biarritz, where he will be joined by former England international Jonathan Joseph and disgraced France prop Mohamed Haouas, who has signed for the club after Clermont ripped up their deal to sign him following his conviction for assaulting his wife.
Webb's retirement from international rugby came as somewhat of a surprise having shone at this year's Six Nations after winning back the Wales No.9 jersey under Gatland. He had been expected to battle it out with Tomos Williams for the starting jersey at the World Cup, having been ruled out of the 2015 and 2019 tournaments first through injury and then ineligibility while playing for Toulon.
The Lions tourist's exit from the Test arena came after his Ospreys colleagues Alun Wyn Jones and Justin Tipuric also announced their international retirements, while Cory Hill has also withdrawn from the World Cup squad to take up a contract opportunity abroad.
