Rhys Webb CV 'doing rounds' in France as Wales scrum-half ponders future

Rhys Webb’s CV is reportedly being circulated in France as the Wales scrum-half nears the end of his contract with the Ospreys.

The 40-cap player becomes a free agent this summer and is said to be considering his options after being offered a single-year deal at the Swansea.com Stadium on reduced terms amid Welsh rugby’s cutbacks.

WalesOnline reported last month Webb was weighing up an offer to play in Japan, although his preferred option was to stay with the Ospreys despite apparently being less than impressed by the deal they’ve put on the table.

Now The Rugby Paper say there could be a French dimension to the equation with Webb’s details ‘doing the rounds’ of Top 14 and Pro D2 clubs in France.

There would be no small irony if the 34-year-old ended his career in a Gallic setting.

A previous spell with Toulon didn’t totally work out as all would have hoped, ending early with Webb’s family finding it hard to settle before returning home ahead of the player doing the same.

But he has since regained his Wales place on the strength of his form for the Ospreys and showed in the Six Nations he could still deliver at the highest level.

Webb has captained the Ospreys and earned plaudits for his efforts from his regional coach, Toby Booth.

However, the former Welsh rugby player of the year is now said to be assessing whether there’s an opportunity for him in France’s top two divisions.
