“It’s so surreal, I never thought we’d get five seasons in, truly!” Heather Gay tells me of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s smash success. She and her cousin Whitney Rose — AKA the other half of Bad Weather — are in Australia for the first time ever as part of SXSW Sydney.
“I love that the OGs are still there, we have actually grown as Housewives together. We started it and we’re still there, so there’s layers and layers to our relationship. We trust each other more, but we also trigger each other more,” Heather tells me.
“These women, I understand and respect them so much more now than I did season one and I appreciate that there are women in my life that I can give everything I am to. All my rage, all my ambition, all my shade, all my laughter, and it’s not too much for them. Because it’s hard to find people who can dish it and take it.”

Given the jaw-dropping feud that the cousins were locked in last season, my spicy lil self feels compelled to say: “That’s so true, for example, I can’t believe you guys are sitting here on a couch together given how last season went!”
“Recovery is the most important part. Not the fighting, but the recovery,” Heather says. Too true, queen!

The other Real Housewives shows they watch and their fave Aussie brands
Heather says Dubai, Orange County, New York and New Jersey are the other Housewives shows she keeps up with.
“You have to watch so you don’t repeat the same outfits,” she jokes. “There’s only so many Gucci tracksuits in the world!”
I then tell them my hypothesis that Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is the best-dressed Housewives franchise and their jaws drop. To quote the great Nene Leakes: I said what I said!

“Do you know that we only have one designer store in Salt Lake City and it’s a Louis Vuitton! Everything else we buy is online or we travel for,” Whitney informs me.
Australia, however, has an abundance of shopping options and sleek designers, according to the gals.
“You’ve got phenomenal shopping here,” Heather says, after sharing that they’d hit up Westfield Sydney earlier that day.
“Australian designers are the best. They’re my go-to! My first confessional look is an Australian designer, you know Aje? I love them!”
Whitney also lists Aussie designers Bec + Bridge and Zimmerman as her faves.
Their favourite Real Housewives from other cities
As for which Housewives from across the board that they’re tight with, Heather says she’s “super close” with Marysol Patton and Alexia Nepola from the Real Housewives of Miami, after appearing together in Ultimate Girls Trip season three, which was set in Thailand.

“I love Chanel Ayan from Dubai. I have a special place in my heart for Emily Simpson, I absolutely adore her and admire her from afar,” she adds.
“All the same people!” Whitney says. “I also love Melissa Gorga, she’s always been really sweet and supportive of me. And by unpopular opinion, or popular opinion, Lisa Rinna! She has been so supportive and amazing. She gives me the best advice.”
“And her products are amazing!” Heather says. “Rinna Beauty is everything.”
The cultural impact of the “proof, receipts, timeline” moment and their thoughts on Monica Garcia
Perhaps one of the greatest moments of reality television ever occurred during the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City season four finale. I am, of course, referring to the “proof, receipts, timeline” moment.
During the chat, I asked Heather if she rehearsed that line in the mirror before delivering it so masterfully.
“Have you ever seen a cast trip? There’s not one minute. You’re fuelled by alcohol and lack of sleep,” she said.
“We felt the power of that night and now for me, I still kind of get the chills because it was a really crazy moment.”
Whitney then interjects, referencing ousted Housewife Monica Garcia who was identified as one of the owners of a Housewives hate account in the shocking episode.

“We get so much love but you do have the haters and the trolls. They’re a very small per cent of the audience, right? So we know it’s happening, but to be able to actually come face to face with one who is in your group…”
Heather adds: “Who you had cried with and laughed with and championed and bought presents for…”
“I think that’s where the passion came from, because we could finally face someone, instead of the keyboard warriors,” Whitney says.
They’ve seen bits of the Real Housewives of Melbourne and Sydney
I asked the ladies if they’re familiar with Australia’s very own Housewives shows and while they don’t watch religiously as it’s not available on Bravo over in the States, they did say they’ve seen some spicy clips on TikTok and they’ve v. impressed.
“I’ve seen the clips on social media,” Heather says.
“They bring the cutting shade! We should watch and learn.”
“We love them, they’re amazing,” Whitney adds.
I then described the Aussie renditions as “super spicy,” and Whitney responds: “Are you spicy? Because I feel like Australians are the nicest people I’ve ever met”.
“I feel like they’re really nice to you but to each other, we can be pretty brutal,” I inform her.
“You guys have a healthy sense of humour, you can take a joke,” Heather adds.
Heather has a date with a staffer from Sydney Airport
The gals continuously raved about Aussies throughout the chat and in particular, Heather said that the staff at the Sydney Airport were super friendly.
“I left with three phone numbers and a dinner date. I had the best time crossing your border! I would do it everyday and twice on Sundays,” she cheekily says.
They want Cardi B and Lala Kent to join Real Housewives
I asked them if there’s a celebrity who they think would be perfect for Real Housewives and Whitney’s immediate response is reality TV veteran and rapper Cardi B, while Heather said she wants to see women who “were young and single in reality television who are now married or mothers, like Lala Kent. She’s from Utah, Lauren from Utah. I would love to see her roll her double stroller up and give us a run for our money!”
They respond to Rihanna’s RHOSLC shoutout
Queen of the Universe Rihanna recently fan girlled over RHOSLC in an interview with E! News. During the interview, I got the ladies to fan girl back.
“We’re huge fans of Rihanna since season one, she’s always been so supportive,” Heather said.
“Anytime that she acknowledges we exist is like ‘What the fuck!’ It just doesn’t compute.”
“She’s actually a fan of Bad Weather, we’ve had a DM exchange and she’s liked some of our posts,” Whitney proudly adds.
The one Real Housewives star they’ve had beef with
When asked if they’ve ever been disappointed by Real Housewives from other cities after meeting them IRL, only one name came up.
“I had one weird thing at BravoCon but it was a misunderstanding and we cleared it up,” Whitney says.
“With who?” Heather whispers, intrigued.
“Larsa Pippen. It was a total miscommunication, we cleared it up on Twitter.”
“Yeah that’s the best place to clear things up!” Heather sarcastically responds.
ICYMI: during a panel at BravoCon 2022, Whitney said: “I tried to talk to Larsa today and I got a little shoulder.”
Larsa later responded during a subsequent panel, saying: “I don’t even remember seeing her.”

The tea on BravoCon 2025
The gals gush about BravoCon, with Whitney saying: “I think the Housewives have a mutual respect for each other and it’s so cool. BravoCon is the best — just being in the back and running into everyone.”
“It’s back on next year! I’m manifesting a trip over there!” I respond.
“You’ve gotta get there, we’ll get you VIP. Look at your cool shirt!” Heather says.
I’m gonna hold you to that one, Heather. See you in Vegas in 2025!
