Rhod Gilbert moves home to be closer to hospital amid cancer battle

Rhod Gilbert’s wife has revealed that the couple has moved house to be closer to the hospital amid the comedian’s cancer fight.

The 53-year-old stand-up star has been receiving treatment at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff after revealing this summer that he’d been diagnosed with cancer.

Sharing an update on social media, Gilbert’s wife Sian Harries explained that they’d moved house three times to be closer to the centre while Gilbert receives treatment.

Harries, who has been married to Gilbert since 2013, also added that “life is a lot,” however they’re staying positive thanks to the support of friends and family.

“Moved house for the third time today since July so Rhod can be close to hospital. Life is a lot at the moment but we’re getting through it with the help of our wonderful friends and family,” she wrote on Twitter.

Her post has been inundated with supportive comments from friends and fans as they wished the comedian well.

Responding to a comment, Harries also said: it’s not ideal and all the meds and equipment fill an entire car on their own at the moment!”

Rhod Gilbert is known for starring on Never Mind The Buzzcocks (Joel Anderson)

Rhod has been a staple feature of numerous comedy shows, including Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Would I Lie To You? However, in July he was forced to cancel his comedy performances after suffering neck and throat pain.

Gilbert later announced that he would be “disappearing for a while” when he confirmed that he was being treated for cancer.

He didn’t tell followers what type of cancer he had been diagnosed with at the time.

“As a proud patron of Velindre Cancer Centre, I’ve trekked the world, hosted chaotic quizzes, and star-studded comedy nights,” he wrote at the time on social media.

“I’ve met and made friends with so many inspirational staff, patients, and their families. It has been a huge part of my life for the last ten years.

He added: “So while I never imagined that I would be a patient here, I know better than anyone that I am in the best possible hands. The NHS care I’m receiving is incredible.

“I wouldn’t wish this on anyone… but who knows, maybe I’ll come out the other end with a new stand-up show and a 40-minute rant about orange squash.”

He concluded: “I’ll be disappearing for a while and won’t be commenting further, at least not for now, whilst I focus on my recovery.”
