Rhino-themed family fun day at Edinburgh Zoo to raise money for conservation

Edinburgh Zoo are hosting a fun family event to mark World Rhino Day and raise money for conservation.

On Sunday, September 22 there will be a whole day of activities where adults and kids can learn more about the animals.

These include face painting, a tombola, home-baking and a tug of war.

Edinburgh Zoo is home to two young rhinos, Qabid and Sanjay.

Two-year-old Sanjay arrived in Edinburgh earlier this year, and was lifted in to meet his older friend's enclosure by crane.

The zoo say that they care for juvenile male rhinos until they are old enough to be paired with a mate as part of the European breeding programme.

The species are currently under increasing threat of extinction due to poaching and habitat loss.
