Rhasidat Adeleke the Irish indoor 400m record that had stood since 2002 with a blistering run in America on Saturday evening.
Adeleke blew away the field on her way to recording a time of 50.45 in the University of New Mexico Collegiate Classic, smashing the previous Irish record set by Karen Shinkins (51.58) 21 years ago, a record which has stood since before she was born.
The 20-year-old's time is the fastest run by any woman in the World over 400m so far this year, and in an additional slice of history, Adeleke becomes the fastest Irish woman in history, indoors or out.

On that occasion, the Dubliner, who represents the University of Texas, posted a winning time of 22.52 seconds in the Dr MLK Invitational, which was the fastest 200m in the world this year at the time.
