ฺฺBangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt thanked low-ranking staff on Sunday for their good work that helped City Hall connect with residents in the capital.

The governor said workers on the ground were important as they were a key link between administrators of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and people living in the city.

He was speaking as he hosted a lunch for five outstanding low-ranking workers. They were street cleaner Kalchana Netvjit, park cleaner Phanom Thepprasit, garbage collector Sakcharoen Yambu, toilet pump lorry worker Kan Pitsunee and drainage worker Chatchai Saennarak.

The location of the lunch was the Chatuchak District office.

Ms Kalchana, a contracted member of staff of the Chatuchak District Office, was probably the most well-known guest as she was the one who helped a student of Horwang School to escape from a thief on Monday.

On that day, she saw a man approach a student when she was walking alone to a school gate. She said she decided to ride her motorcycle to alert teachers at the entrance. The teachers ran to the scene to save the schoolgirl, who said the man made off with 100 baht in cash from her, according to Ms Kalchana.

Mr Chadchart on Friday commended the cleaner for her alertness in helping the student and thanked her again before the meal on Sunday.

The menu included Hainan chicken rice, roasted pork with rice and dumpling soup.

"Don't be shy. I'm not a superstar. I'm just a governor," he told the guests as they were reluctant to start the meal.
