REVIEW: TRNSMT returns for another year of music, sunshine and smiles

Scotland’s biggest music festival returned for a fifth time at the weekend.

The three-day TRNSMT event welcomed some huge acts who performed to a sell-out crowd of 50,000.

Opening the festival was The Bootleg Beatles, who had the whole crowd singing along to Beatles classics such as Hey Jude and Come Together.

The sun was shining and fans were happy to be back seeing live music once again on Glasgow Green.

Over on the King Tuts stage, Callum Beattie played an electric set that had everyone bouncing and singing along.

On the main stage, Bedford singer Tom Grennan performed his hits to a crowd who screamed the lyrics back at him.

The singer told fans he was so excited to be in Glasgow and that he can’t wait to return.

As the first day moved on, Wishaw boys Saint PHNX rocked the King Tut's stage and got fans in the mood to watch Sam Fender over on the main stage.

The Newcastle singer is a TRNSMT favourite, having played the festival four times. Hit tunes Seventeen Going Under and Saturday had fans ready for headline act, Paolo Nutini.

The Paisley star hadn’t played a Glasgow show in nearly 10 years and fans were more than ready to see him again. Performing tracks from his huge back catalogue, fans were blown away by the singer's set as he brought the curtain down on an excellent first day of music.

Saturday saw some of the biggest names in Indie music to the main stage.

Example got the crowd fired up with his early afternoon slot. The rapper echoed the widely-held opinion of many artists when he said: “Glasgow is just the best city to play in. I love it here.”

The afternoon saw Fontaines DC, The Snuts and Foals play, before US veteran rockers, The Strokes, took the stage for their headline slot.

The band ran through many of their biggest hits, leaving fans buoyed by another day of fantastic live music and of course, glorious sunshine.

The closing day of TRNSMT was plagued by travel issues, with no trains home available for fans' home journeys.

However, that didn’t stop them from enjoying another day of brilliant sunshine on Glasgow Green.

The River stage made its second appearance after debuting last year. This platform champions new bands and acts such as Connor Fyfe and Rianne Downey, who both pulled massive crowds to the intimate setting.

On the main stage, pop singer Mimi Webb played to thousands of adoring fans.

Speaking to Lanarkshire Live, she said: “I love being in Glasgow and I can’t believe I get to play the main stage.

“Scotland has been so kind to me and whenever I am here I always have the best gigs and the most fun.”

The main stage headliner for Sunday was Lewis Capaldi, who joked about having no new music because he was "lazy over lockdown".

And the star's set was a fitting end to another superb TRNSMT festival. The atmosphere was incredible from start to finish and music fans are already eagerly awaiting next year's line-up to be announced.
